Use the brush or swab to gently swirl around the stamen of the male flower. Carefully swirl the pollen collected on the brush onto the stigma of the female flower. Touch all surfaces around the middle of the female flower. Collect pollen from multiple male flowers for each female flower on the plant.

Pollinating by Hand - Method #1
Use this method to hand pollinate- zucchini
- squash
- pumpkin
- watermelon
The male flower has a plain stem under the flower.
The female flower has a tiny vegetable under the flower.
Gently snip the male flower off of the plant, leave flower intact if possible.
Snip the petals off the male flower.
Do not touch the stamen on the male flower with your fingers.
Locate a fresh female flower with the petals pushed back.
Gently touch the stamen from the male flower to the stigma on the female flower.
Roll the stamen from the male flower back and forth on the stigma of the
female flower.
Pollinating by Hand - Method #2
Use this method to pollinate vegetable:- small flowers
- cucumbers
- cantaloupe
Purchase a small watercolor paintbrush or use cotton swabs.
- The brush or swabs need to be clean and dry.
- pollinate very early in the morning and in dry conditions.
- Identify the male and female flower.
Vegetable plants will have more male flowers than female flowers.
Use the brush or swab to gently swirl around the stamen of the male flower.
