Detecting Male or Female

The high produced from smoking Indica bud is a strong physical body high that will make you sleepy or ‘couch-locked’ and provides a deep relaxation feeling compared to a Sativa high, which is known to be more energetic and uplifting.

Benefits of Indica:
1. Relieves body pain
2. Relaxes muscles
3. Relieves spasms, reduces seizures
4. Relieves headaches and migraines
5. Relieves anxiety or stress

Benefits of Sativa:
1. Feelings of well-being and at-ease
2. Up-lifting and cerebral thoughts
3. Stimulates and energizes
4. Increases focus and creativity
5. Fights depression

Detecting Male or Female

Detecting Male or Female marijuana plants is pretty simple to do. Cannabis plants should show first signs of their sex, male or female, within the first 2 weeks of flowering. The pre-flowers grow at branch internodes just behind the leaf spur or stipule about the fourth week of the vegetative growth stage, when the plant is six to eight weeks old. This is when the marijuana plant experiences sexual maturity. Male plants will show “nut sacks” or seed pockets, where female will grow white hairs which are the pistols out from their nodes.

Flowering Male or Female Plants

Flowering marijuana plants for seeds or for buds is the decision of the grower. If you are trying to cross breed strains or you want more seeds for future use, then you will want to add male plants to your female garden as they produce pollen which “impregnates” the female marijuana buds. If you are growing for income or smoke, then you do not want any male plants inside your cannabis garden as they can become a grower’s worst nightmare.

vegetative growth stage. During this time it is crucial for you to know everything there is about your strain(s). As the plants mature, the roots take on specialized functions. The plant uses its center and old, mature portions to store food and transfer food and nutrients to the proper places.

In my experience, here are the cases when growers benefit from giving plans shorter light periods than 12 hours during the end of the flowering stage:
  • For strains that come from the equator where light levels are often near 12-12 (usually sativa plants) reducing the flowering light period to 10-14 or even 8-16 is sometimes needed to get the plant to mature.
  • Also for some Sativa and Haze strains, the normal flowering period is 3-4+ months, and shorter light periods can be used to "force" the buds to mature faster
  • In cases of extreme heat, sometimes the yield loss from shorter light periods is worth the reduced heat, especially if someone is just trying to get their plants to survive until harvest
  • Any other case where getting the plant to ripen faster outweighs the potential loss of yields, like if you knew you were moving to a new home soon
I normally wouldn't recommend shortening the light periods during the end of flowering unless you have a stubborn Sativa or Haze that just won't finish ripening, or if you have some reason you need the plant to ripen faster. Otherwise, I believe the only real result is reduced yields

The Vegetative Stage of the Plant Life Cycle

The vegetative stage in nature occurs when plants receive 13 or more hours of light per day. This number varies a little from plant to plant (genetics) and from one situation to the next. Indoors, the standard vegetative light cycle is anywhere from 18 hours of light per day to 24 hours of light per day (with no dark period at all). Digital timers are the best way to control the light cycle in my opinion, and are absolutely required once you get into the flowering stage.
The vegetative stage of plant growth requires plenty of Nitrogen and Potassium, necessary to grow healthy leaves and stems
In the vegetative state, plants rush to grow leaves and stems that will feed and support the fruits of the flowering stage. To do this, plants in the vegetative stage require more Nitrogen and Potassium in their plant food.

When your plants are big enough, you can cut the light cycle to 12 hours on/12 hours off to force flowering and begin the flowering stage.

Okay back to Male and Female we can call the male (BILL)
